POSITION OPEN – PARISH SECRETARY/ ADMINISTRATOR
THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, OGDEN, UTAH

The position of the Parish Secretary/Administrator is an important one in a church setting. S/he is one of the very first person(s) the public sees and talks to. S/he is a reflection of the church and should keep this as an honor. The Parish Secretary/Administrator works directly under the Rector, with whom s/he will work closely to ensure the efficient administration of the parish.

PURPOSE OF POSITION
This position involves both financial and secretarial skills. The Parish Secretary will provide secretarial assistance to the Rector, churchwardens and other clergy and staff as required, and assist the treasurer and assistant treasurer with recording parish income and expenditures and with other simple financial matters. The congregation is composed of two language groups, English and Spanish (El Buen Pastor), and both groups will be served by the administrator.

JOB EXPECTATIONS
  • The work of the administrator must be achieved in a manner consistent with the Parish Mission Statement and its Goals and Objectives.
  • The job requires a pleasant demeanor and pastoral sensitivity towards all who enter the office or call on the telephone.
  • The administrator will keep strict confidentiality of sensitive information, assuring the reputation and integrity of others is safeguarded. Divulging the private matters of any person is grounds for immediate dismissal.
These areas of work are not exhaustive, and the successful candidate may expect to perform other duties as assigned.

HOURS
  • Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 2:30pm (2:00 p.m. on Thursdays) with one hour for lunch. These days and hours are flexible, by agreement with the Rector.
  • The salary is $18.00-20.00 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Up to 15 days paid vacation per year; paid public holidays and paid sick leave

REQUIRED QUALITIES AND SKILLS
  • Professional, pleasant demeanor with an ability to keep strict confidences
  • Excellent organizational and telephone skills and an ability to be flexible
  • Competent computer skills in word processing, file maintenance, and accounting data entry
  • Ability to work collegially with all congregational leaders and constituents
  • Willingness to be trained in, and ability to learn, computer and other skills as needed

DESIRABLE QUALITIES AND SKILLS
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish and English, with excellent grammar and composition in at least one of these languages
  • Familiarity with the Episcopal Church and its structures and customs
