Adult Sunday School, Winter-Spring 2007-2008
A Journey through the Gospel according to John
In our various Adult Sunday School series, we’ve aimed to foster a lively, questioning, practical and involved theological engagement. We’ve also sought to support a growing spiritual practice that engages our devotion, reason—and imagination.Adult Sunday School, Spring 2008 Tuttle Hall, 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Last year, using Dallas Willard’s The Divine Conspiracy, we undertook a close reading of the Sermon on the Mount, finding new ways of connecting with the scriptural texts. The first part of this year, we worked our way through Eugene Peterson’s Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places, discovering fresh expressions of classic Christian faith. (And additionally, of course, I always seem to make sure that Professor Lewis makes an appearance among us, at least now and then.) Most recently, we took a look at the sacrificial efforts that reformers undertook to bring the people translations of the Bible in their own languages. Hoping to build on all this, we’ll now be launching into a long-term, interactive, and conversational study of the Fourth Gospel. From time to time, we’ll take a few breaks to do other things, but the plan is that this will be our main Adult School endeavor for the next year and a half. Welcome to the journey. In the best senses, may it be adventuresome!
